Montcalm Community Gratitude

Hello, my name is Duane Weed, your host and producer, and I’m thankful for all of you who tune in each week to learn more about our amazing county. Personally, I’m thankful for my health… even if the ol’ check-engine light is starting to flicker on a little more these days.

I’m thankful for my family, for the opportunity to work with young people as a Digital Arts instructor at the Montcalm Area Career Center, and for 41 years of creating media at DWVideo.com. I’m grateful I can still sit behind the drum kit, play the music I love, and worship my faith in God freely.

Montcalm Local Thankfuls For in 2025

I also did a little Google—and yes, even an AI—search to see what others are thankful for. Health tops the list, of course, along with family and friends who keep us grounded. Many people are grateful for the strength of their small communities: neighbors helping neighbors, local businesses working hard, and organizations that step up when it matters most.

People are appreciating steady work, new opportunities, and the comfort of simply having a place to call home. We’re thankful for the technology that keeps us connected, the natural beauty that surrounds our county, and all those everyday moments of joy we usually zoom right past.

Whatever this year has brought your way, all of us at the Discover Montcalm Podcast hope you find something meaningful to be thankful for—today and in the days ahead.

Exploring More of Montcalm’s Gifts

As we reflect on gratitude, it’s wonderful to consider the specific treasures that make Montcalm County truly special. Beyond the general blessings of health and family, our community thrives on unique pillars. Many are thankful for the vibrant spirit of events like the annual Montcalm County Fair, a cherished tradition that brings generations together, celebrating our agricultural heritage and fostering a sense of shared joy. It’s a place where memories are made and local achievements are proudly displayed.

Our natural landscape also offers profound reasons for thanks. The serene beauty and recreational opportunities found along the Fred Meijer Flat River Trail, for instance, provide a peaceful escape and a chance to connect with Michigan’s stunning outdoors. And speaking of our roots, we’re incredibly grateful for the dedication of our local farms and agricultural traditions, which not only feed our families but also preserve the rich, fertile spirit of our land. These hardworking farmers are the backbone of our county’s prosperity.

Education and growth are also key to our collective well-being. The presence of institutions like Montcalm Community College offers invaluable opportunities for learning and advancement, shaping the future leaders and skilled workforce of our area. And for us, specifically rooted in Howard City, Michigan, we’re thankful for the close-knit community and the entrepreneurial spirit that defines our particular corner of Montcalm County. These specific entities and places truly enrich our lives and give us even more reasons to say “thank you.”
