Why Buy Local Does Not Work 100% of the Time?
We have just talked about why buying local is so important—but let’s be real,
no county can be 100% local. And that’s okay!
Think about it—where does your gas come from? Your cell phone? That laptop or TV? There are just some things that
aren’t made locally because we don’t have the industries to produce them. And that’s true for every small community, not just Montcalm.
Buy Local – Outside Resources
Even our amazing local businesses rely on outside sources. Your favorite coffee shop? They probably get their beans from South America. That local boutique? Some of their materials might come from across the country. And even our farmers, as self-sufficient as they are, might need tools, feed, or equipment that aren’t produced nearby.
So, does that mean buying local doesn’t matter?
Absolutely not!
It just means we need to be
realistic about what can and can’t be sourced here. The key is to support
local businesses whenever possible, so more of our money stays right here, fueling our economy, creating jobs, and keeping Montcalm County thriving.
Buy Local Challenge
So here’s a thought—next time you need something, ask yourself: Can I buy this locally? If the answer is yes, go for it! Hand those videotapes to me to transfer, not shipping across the country to have it done.
