What is MAISD?

MAISD operates as a critical support system for the local school districts in Montcalm County, offering services and resources that individual schools might not be able to provide on their own. This includes:

• Career and technical education programs at the Montcalm Area Career Center

• Special education support

• Early childhood services

• Professional development for educators

• Technology and administrative support

Katie shared that her work involves collaboration across all school districts in the county, aiming to ensure equity, innovation, and opportunity for every student—no matter their zip code.

Career and Technical Education: A Local Bright Spot

One of the highlights of the conversation was the discussion around the Montcalm Area Career Center, which gives high school students hands-on learning experiences in fields such as healthcare, automotive technology, welding, graphic design, and more. These programs not only prepare students for skilled trades but also help them explore paths to college and beyond.

“Students leave the Career Center with a skillset that gives them a jumpstart on their future,” Katie explained. “It’s truly life-changing for many of them.”
