Joseph’s dance career spans prestigious institutions including the Pittsburgh Ballet, Point Park Conservatory, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Charlotte Ballet (formerly North Carolina Dance Theater). After performing on global stages as far as Japan, family brought Joseph and his wife Miranda to West Michigan.

In 2008, an opportunity arose to purchase an established dance studio in Greenville from long-time owner Marcie Ann Layson. Embracing the community, Joseph and Miranda took over the reins to establish what is now Flat River Dance Company.

By focusing on classical fundamentals, contemporary, jazz, pointe work, and hip-hop, the school prepares young dancers for full-length theatrical productions while fostering self-confidence, structure, and teamwork.
